In 2024, the IVL Foundation continues its support for science experiments at Kaen Thong Uppatham School, a Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) school in Prawet District. This initiative aims to enhance science education for economically disadvantaged students, motivate them to apply scientific knowledge for career advancement, and encourage the pursuit of higher education in STEM fields.
The school’s expanded science curriculum activities include:
- Vegetable Farming: Enhancing soil nutrition with manure and organic materials to promote healthy vegetable growth in their domes.
- Fertilizer Composting: Building a shelter for earthworm farming.
- Fish and Frog Farming: Addressing odor complaints from neighbors by constructing a water treatment system. This activity generates the most income for students.
- Waste Management: Promoting a waste management campaign within the school.
- Agriculture Skills Development Camp: The camp was organized by Veterinary Army School in Nakhon Nayok on July 25-26, 2024, for 116 students in grades 11 and 12. The camp covered six agricultural activities, including new theory agriculture, frog farming, chicken and turkey farming, indoor gardening, inland fisheries, and organic household products. Through these activities, students engaged in practical, hands-on experiences that complemented their theoretical education.
In addition to supporting the school’s science experiments, IVLF provides students with opportunities to explore and learn beyond the classroom through activities such as:
- Inviting the teacher and students to lead a workshop for 50 students at Ban Nernpayom School in Prachuap Khiri Khan, where IVLF has been conducting its Rural Development Project in June 2024.
- Taking students to visit Petch Organic Farm in Phetchaburi, where they learned about the benefits of integrating cultivation, herding, fertilizing, and agriprocessing. Inspired by this visit, the students and their teacher plan to implement the use of Black Soldier Flies at their school to manage food waste and support their farming activities.
